Thank you for your interest in our Intelligent Portfolio platform. This list of frequently asked questions will be under continual development. If you have a specific question that you do not see below, feel free to send us a message via our contact page.
One of the benefits of the Intelligent Portfolio platform is that there are no commissions or trade confirmation charges associated with the accounts. In most traditional investment account platforms, there are usually fees per trade (usually somewhere between $8 and $12). If there are 5-10 trades per month, this can add up very quickly.
The Intelligent Portfolio platform allows the Sullivan Group to simply charge a flat fee for our management based on how many assets you have under our oversight. This is structured as follows:
Once per quarter, we simply charge 1/4 of your annual fee right to your investment account.
At this point, Individual Brokerage, Custodial, Joint Tenant with Rights of Survivorship, Tenants in Common, Community Property, revocable living trust (single and two trustees), Roth IRA, Traditional IRA, and Rollover IRA are the account types available in Institutional Intelligent Portfolios. 401k and SEP IRAs will be available in the future.
Charles Schwab is the financial institution that is actually the custodian of the assets. Your investments and cash positions are held in Charles Schwab. The Sullivan Group is an independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), an asset management and advisory firm. As our client, you would essentially be hiring The Sullivan Group to access your accounts at Charles Schwab so that we can apply our expertise to your investment selections.
Intelligent Portfolios allows The Sullivan Group to automate and modernize certain aspects of the investment management process and thereby better serve our clients in our areas of expertise. We leverage the Intelligent Portfolio technology and algorithms to ensure that the allocations of client investments fit their goals, objectives, and point in life. At the same time, we are able to construct a very specific portfolio with investment positions that reflect the way we see the economic landscape.
The Sullivan Group has the ability to select the asset classes, sectors, and positions while having the flexibility to adjust and adapt as necessary. Meanwhile, the Intelligent Portfolio platform automatically allocates the account such a specific percentage of the overall investment amount goes into a certain position, based on the client’s specific financial and personal context. It also smartly engages in automated rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting, and streamlines the client’s account management access.
Intelligent Portfolios accounts can be funded with cash or equity securities (individual stocks, ETFs, or mutual funds). Cash can be added through deposits, cash journals from another Schwab account, wires, or transfer from a checking account. To fund with equity securities (such as transferring assets from another financial institution), The Sullivan Group will help initiate a transfer of accounts request.
From here, you can make monthly or one-time contributions to your account on a going forward basis. The Sullivan Group can help set everything up.
All securities are liquidated and invested in The Sullivan Group’s defined portfolio, except if there is a matching security in the portfolio. That security will only be liquidated to the extent necessary to match the portfolio allocation. Although reasonable efforts are made to trade positions on the next business day following transfer, positions are traded without regard to timing or tax consequences.
